2006 Was So Yesterday
Dear 2007,
I've been waiting for you for a couple of weeks. The last six months of 2006 were so insane that I was pretty happy to say goodbye to the year. My life has literally changed in every aspect, and my mind is still processing those changes, so I'd be quite happy if your first few months were rather dull.
If 2006 could be summed up in a few words, it would be changes and friendship. I was amazed at what God did in my life and some of the decisions that I found myself making, both good and bad. However, the one thing that got me through those highs and the lows were my incredible army of friends who are now scattered around the country. For that, I can never thank God enough. That's one trend that I hope stays the same in the years to come.
I know that you will be another pivotal year. Until July, grad school will be pretty intense, and then I'll have to make important decisions about where I'm going in my life. Mr. Stafford and Mr. Perkins are also going to be giving me a call in the latter part, so finding a full-time job with benefits and a retirement plan are at the top of the to do list. I'd also like to do a bit of traveling. It would be nice to do a repeat of last year and spend a week or two across the pond as a reward for becoming Girl from the South, M.A., but my hopes are a bit higher than my finances.
Generally, I know I make several resolutions about working out more, drinking more water, reading my Bible/praying more often, etc. but this year, I just want to make just one big one. It's become fairly obvious that I need to simplify my life, so one resolution should be plenty for me. Seeing that I've lost nearly 40 pounds in the last two years, I'd say I've got the common ones covered. However, my spiritual life has often gotten lost in the shuffle, so as a good Calvinist, my one resolution is to "Glorify God and enjoy Him forever" as much as possible in my life. Seeing that those six words have prompted mulitudes of commentaries, it's a pretty big challenge. There are a few other minor resolutions that I've made, but I'm depending on Mrs. M and Bekna to help me with those.
Above everything else, I hope that 2007 keeps providing interesting adventures for me. Of course given my natural ability to find drama and trouble in every circumstance, I doubt life will ever be boring. However, to paraphrase another quote from Anne of Green Gables, "2007 is full of new days with no mistakes in them."
2007-I look forward to getting to know you.
Your Friend,
Girl from the South
